Aqua sports
At a 5-minute walk from the campsite you will find two large swimming lakes; ‘t Nije Hemelriek and Gasselterveld. ‘T Nije Hemelriek is the perfect pond for swimming fun with the family. The beach is uncluttered and sloping. It is not very deep, as an adult you can easily keep your head above water even in the middle of the lake. At the Gasselterveld, this is not the case outside the driveline. Within the indicated area you can swim wonderfully, but outside the line it gets very deep. This lake is therefore suitable for paddle boarding, canoeing, long-distance swimming and diving. Only exercise here with the right equipment. Motorized boats are prohibited here.
Grab the bike!
Drenthe is the cycling province of the Netherlands, a well-deserved title. De Lente van Drenthe is the starting point of our favourite mountain bike route: Gieten-Gasselte. And on the Hondsrug alone you will find 4 other mountain bike routes that you can all connect with each other. Do you prefer to take it a little easier? Then discover the possibilities of the numerous cycling routes. A 2-minute bike ride from the campsite you will find junction 61, your starting point for numerous cycling routes. At the Koerscafé we are happy to give you route tips. Are you going out with children? Then cycle children's route Steenmannetje op Fietse, where you have to solve games with VR glasses and a cycling app during the trip through Drenthe.
Discover the forest
Our campsite is located on the edge of the Gieten-Borger forestry. You can explore the forests by going on your own, but you can also opt for already marked hiking trails. 3 routes start from the beach of 't Nije Hemelriek. Not done hiking yet? Then 3 more routes start at 2 km from the campsite and at the Boomkroonpad (5 km from the campsite) 5 more routes start, one of which even goes along a hunebed.
Experience Drenthe
Don't forget to experience the real Drenthe during your holiday in Drenthe. Visit the Balloo flock of sheep, search for all 52 hunebeds and taste the Drentse Heidekoek from Bakker Job in Gieten. We can also recommend a visit to the monument village of Orvelte or the green villages of Exloo and Zuidlaren. Are you coming to Drenthe at the end of the summer?
